The Senior Well Being clinics are held monthly at HUD subsidized senior housing units and community centers. The clinics are staffed by volunteer nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, and social workers. We review the history and current health of the seniors, providing health and social assessment, education and referrals. We also provide cards to keep track of their blood pressure that is assessed at each visit.
Senior Well Being Clinic Making a Difference… In June, Carol Allen, a regular at one of SET’s Senior Well Being Clinics sent a letter. She shared with us a story that really showed how big of a difference such a simple Well Being Clinic check up can make. February 19, 2008 Carol went for her monthly check-up. During the check up that day she was told by Ginny, one of our volunteer nurses that her pulse was very slow and she also had an irregular heartbeat. The nurse expressed to Carol that a doctor’s visit was needed to check out the cause of her irregular results. Carol, even though she was feeling just fine, followed up with the nurse's advice. At her doctor’s visit, Carol was astonished to find out that she had a 70% blockage in her right coronary artery and a stint had to be implanted. It's hard to fathom the outcome of this story had SET's program not been there for Carol. We here at SET are always so touched to hear we are making a difference and are truly thankful to Carol for sharing this story. We are happy to report that Carol is doing GREAT! |
